Our Story
As a nurse, I witnessed a significant need for safe housing to help elderly patients transition after being discharged from the hospital. This heartfelt need deeply resonated with me.
I approached my husband, Isaac, about the possibility of transforming our residential basement into a Personal Care Home. Sharing the same passion for elderly care, Isaac wholeheartedly agreed to convert his beloved man cave into a welcoming space for our residents. Our home truly became their home.
Since then, we have expanded our facilities to accommodate and care for even more residents. We take pride in giving family members the reassurance that their loved ones are in the best possible hands. Our highly trained staff and caregivers focus on creating an environment where residents feel engaged, supported, and empowered to thrive.

In the heart of Georgia, a Ghanaian-American power couple, Ambassador Isaac Essel and Empress Henrietta Essel, are not just building a business—they’re building an empire of care, transforming the landscape of senior living and addressing a critical need for Georgia’s rapidly growing aging population.
The story of Serenity Empire begins with Empress Henrietta Essel, a distinguished Daisy Award-winning nurse recognized for extraordinary nursing at WELLSTAR Health System and Grady Memorial Hospital. Witnessing firsthand the unmet needs within hospitals, Henrietta envisioned a solution: a personal care home that would offer unparalleled, personalized care. Her vision, born from compassion and a deep understanding of elder care, blossomed in August 2015, right in the basement of their home.
Ambassador Isaac Essel, an accomplished entrepreneur and investor, embraced his wife’s groundbreaking idea with unwavering support, even dedicating his “man cave” to launch what would become a pioneering venture. This selfless commitment laid the foundation for Serenity Empire, which proudly stands today as the first Black-owned assisted living and memory care facility with multiple locations across Georgia.
From their very first employee, Miss Elizabeth – Henrietta’s mother – who significantly contributed to their early growth, Serenity Empire has expanded exponentially. What started as a basement initiative now boasts 148 dedicated employees serving seven vibrant locations throughout Georgia. This remarkable growth is a testament to their unwavering commitment to providing a safe environment where seniors can maintain their independence and dignity, offering invaluable peace of mind to their families.
